1. Villagers should learn to talk about past events using the present perfect tense – both with haben and with sein.

2. Practice using the simple past for “to be.” “Wo warst du, als …?”

3. Practice using the simple past with modal verbs: “Ich wollte Fußball spielen, aber …”

4. If time permits you can introduce the simple past of other verbs – ging, spielte, schrieb … It would be best to practice these with a written exercise.
